Safe Routes to Parks and Schools

Establish a campaign of safe routes to parks and schools. In 2012-2015, an initiative began where volunteers and parents organized a program of walks to school and safety education in our community. Statistics show that 6,000 pedestrians die every year from being run over. In California, pedestrians die from being run over. Being the second cause of death in children 5-12 years old. In Lemon Grove we continue to see accidents... more »

Recreation Center

My idea is to have a recreation center that is open and available to the entire community. We will have classes for different ages. Classes such as "My Baby and Yó", Crafts, exercises, tutoring for students after classes, and activities.

Tree Planting

Contact freepeople.org or another organization that could help us plant trees. Maybe City Hall would recommend where to plant. Or maybe we could ask residents if they want trees planted. Lemon Grove has more trees than many cities in San Diego, but we can always use more.....drought resistant, of course.

School Based Health Centers

School based health centers provide direct onsite linkages to critical primary and preventive care services for children and their families, and can be a vital community asset and innovation. Usually operated by a community clinic/FQHC, they can provide well-child exams, immunizations, sick visits, integrated behavioral health, Medi-Cal enrollment, and case management/service referral. Co-locating healthcare with neighborhood... more »

Make Farmers Market a community event

Expand the existing farmers market to become a weekly community event. We need about 100 community members who actively support the vendors that are coming, keep inviting and reminding Lemon Grove residents to show up for their market- a place to meet friends, share meals bought at the market, and take home fresh veggies with ideas on how to fix them.

Linear Access Parks System

Have you ever thought about walking to a nearby park and ultimately decided not to because the walk was less than pleasant or less than safe? Have you ever asked one of your children not to walk to a nearby park alone because the route is hazardous?

Well, what if, the parks were brought closer to you? What if, you walked through a park to get to the park? Well, by implementing a Linear Access Parks System (LAPS) we can... more »

Street Repair

We all want to see it happen, and with funds from California Senate Bill 1 (SB1), we may just get it. However, I must pose the question, "Is it enough to simply repair our streets, or should we be asking for more?"

With this idea, I propose that we ask for more. I propose that we ask for more thoughtfulness, more safety, and more community engagement in the repairing of our streets.

In order to do this,... more »

Community Design Districts

"Character," is a word that I have frequently heard to describe different aspects of Lemon Grove. I have this word used in phrases ranging from, "That building by the trolley stop doesn't match the 'character' of our City," to, "My neighborhood/street has a lot of 'character'," referring to many single family communities in Lemon Grove. What do we mean when we use the word "character?" Can, and how, do we quantify "character?"... more »

Transit Improvements and Multimodal Enhancements

Have you ever looked at the painted bike lanes that have appeared on Lemon Grove's streets over the past few years? Have you ever wondered why so few bicyclists use these lanes? -OR- Have you ever been stuck behind an MTS bus just waiting for a moment to pass? Have you ever declined to pass an MTS bus because there was just no getting into the next lane?

Well, I believe I have a proposition for a solution. That solution... more »

Lemon Grove Cookbook (fundraiser)

It's probably been done before, but maybe it's been a while. Let's organize a LG cookbook and sell it as a fundraiser. We could also invite our LG restaurants to contribute a recipe that isn't secret. They could then display and sell the cookbooks from the restaurants. We could all buy/sell the cookbooks with the help of the orgs that want to participate..

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

There used to be an org that connected residents so that they could help each other. A student might cut someone's grass and then that student gets tutoring time from another resident (or whatever). It would take a great deal of organizing, but I love the concept. I'm sure some of the old timers remember this program and could help.

Kids Committee

Every community knows, children are our future.

What if we involved children in community issues to help them understand issues, the challenges within, and in the process of creating solutions? Maybe they would have a better understanding and appreciation of the things their parents are concerned about too.

Maybe parents would learn more about what kids see, and what they think of what they see. This would be good,... more »

The Ability to Walk on Crosswalks Safely

In most of the school area we see children and students of all ages walking to school and back to home without their parents for any reason but has no one ever wonder if they are safe walking in these dangerous roads. In many crosswalks depending on the area can seem alright to walk by but when its getting dark these paths are not as well as there is no light. For instance there are many crosswalks that are so short and... more »

LEMON GROVE COMMUNITY WALKATHON/JOGATHAN

Invite the local churches, elem, middle and local high schools, community groups and LG Families and friends to participate in a neighborhood walkathon/Jogathan. We could raise funds for the Local Parks and Rec access/improvements that would benefit the whole.
